"When I is replaced by we, illness becomes wellness."
- Shannon L. Alder
Have you felt stuck in a cycle? Do you have a particular life obstacle you’re trying to overcome? Maybe you have been dealing with unexplained sadness, or feelings you are struggling to identify. Whatever is bringing you here, know that you have made a tremendous decision to seek help. Sometimes, seeking help from a professional is the best way to put things into perspective. Finding someone you can connect with and trust is the next paramount step in seeking treatment. As a mental health counselor, your well-being and mental strength is my highest priority.
My practice is one that encompasses a multitude of approaches and orientations in order to help you with the variety of issues we face in life. My experience has been just as diverse as my approach to treatment. From treating mood and personality disorders, trauma, and substance abuse and addiction, I have seen the many ways in which mental illness manifests itself. I aim to establish a therapeutic space - one that is safe, comfortable, and loving, so that you can come into your own personal challenges while working collaboratively to reach a place of self-compassion, healing, and recovery.
Well-being is the ultimate goal. Services are tailored to YOU. I work with individuals, families, treatment providers, recovery coaches, and communities.
Therapy sessions should be designed to assist you through your challenges and through your own healing process.

A Bit About Therapy
Much like the way we endure pain and injury throughout our bodies, our brains are also susceptible to pain. I like to refer to mental illness and addiction as a sort of "brain pain". I implement effective psychotherapy methods to instill self-understanding and encourage people to adopt new attitudes and feelings towards life situations. It is imperative to keep in mind that therapy is NOT a magic pill or some quick fix! Therapy is a healing process that necessitates participation and commitment from all involved. Most importantly, therapy is hard work! By making changes to self-defeating behaviors, negative thinking patterns, and self-destructive actions, AND learning to cope with feelings of sadness, fear, and pain, you will begin to notice life-altering results.
I am a mental health counselor with experience in working with adolescents and adults. My specialty areas include helping people affected by trauma, anxiety, mood disorders, and addiction. Much of my current work involves working with young adults facing transitional periods in their lives and developing the interpersonal skills they need to navigate these times with confidence.
I am trained in Eye Movement Rapid Desensitization (EMDR) therapy, and use this work to treat individuals with trauma, substance use disorders, and anxiety disorders. I am a firm believer in meeting people where they are at... tailoring treatment by using creative and integrative treatment that will help you reclaim your life.
Mental illness and addiction affect entire families. Building a sustainable recovery requires the effort of multiple individuals. Engaging family members is essential to restoring harmony within the family and in the individual seeking treatment. Family therapy sessions help foster positive attitudes towards life’s most complex and challenging circumstances, while providing a safe and supportive environment.
